About Dean

Dean survived. Dean survives.

Dean will find a way to survive.

This is the personal blog of Dean Ryan Martin. He loves to watch the show Survivor, that's why, he names this blog I AM Survivor Dean. He loves tennis too.

My real name is Dean Ryan G. Martin, 38 of age as of August 13, 2022, and you can call me Dean. My family and relatives call me D – R (short for Dean Ryan, not an abbreviation for doctor). All my friends, teachers and acquaintances call me Dean.

Either way, DR or Dean, my name sounds dope and it’s okay with me.

Describing myself is not my thing. I do not choose adjectives to label myself.  All I know is, I am an open-minded Survivor who can outwit, outplay and outlast the odds and ends of life.

Yes, I am also a die-hard fan of Mark Burnett’s Survivor. I write a blog for each episode since Season 16 and I guess the winner before the season began 10-times (as of the writing), without looking at the spoilers.

These winners are Aras (Season 12), Parvati (Season 16), JT (Season 18), Kim (Season 24), Cochran (Season 26), Tyson (Season 27), Mike (Season 30) and Dee (Season 45). I also guessed the winners of the local edition of Survivor Philippines – JC (Season 1) and Amanda (Season 2).

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: My Early-favorites Who Have Won Survivor

Though, I am not a backstabber like the one you see on the show.

I am a frontstabber.

I can tell you what you do not want to hear.

I am a friend.

You can trust me with your life.

Stab me in the back and I will forget your existence.

No face-to-face forgiveness.

No catch-up.

Nothing.

Below is my make-believe profile for the show. This is made for fun, do not take it seriously.

Why do you want to be part of Survivor?

Survivor is the metaphor of life. I am part of the adventure since the day I was born, the day I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, the day my mom died, the day I graduated in elementary, high school and college, the day my heart was brokenhearted for the first time, the day I was promoted in work, the day that my best friend betrayed me and the day my dad died regretting I have not followed my intuition to help him more.

The real life is Survivor except that there are no 24/7 cameras around. There is no editing team too but for sure, there are backstabbers around. There are also friends around.

What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?

I grew up with a permanent physical disability. My self-esteem was shattered. My extreme loneliness almost consumed me. Good thing there was light. When my dad allowed me to take up psychology, my life began to improve. Sigmund Freud trained me well LOL.

Which previous player do you identify with the most?

First, I seem to have the leadership qualities of Aras Baskauskas in Season 12. Second is the looks and charisma of Dean Kowalski in Season 39 – when I am sleeping.

What will you value in an alliance partner?

Empathy. When you have empathy, you can listen. When you have empathy, you can be faithful to the alliance. Faithfulness is the process. Loyalty is the goal. Let us focus with the process, not the goal.

Favorite Hobbies: Reading. Listening to R&B. Watching tennis.

Pet Peeves: Arrogant men. Shallow women. Clogged sinks.

What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?

Bringing my dad to a live tennis exhibition away from the city with all the expenses paid by me.

Me inside the Mall of Asia Arena watching live tennis for the first time.

What is something we would never know from looking at you?

I have no girlfriend since Day 1. LOL. Serious though, it is not a priority. My first love is my sweetest downfall. She knows who she is.

Who in your life is your biggest inspiration and why?

My dad for teaching me to follow my intuition and my mom for teaching me to value my education.

Why will you be the Sole Survivor?

I do not know if I will win. Survivor is arguably the most unpredictable reality-competition show invented by mankind. Everything is a process; every Tribal Council has surprises, and every episode has twists. I have no secret formula, rest assured though to give all I can to outwit, outplay and outlast.
