Album Review: Alicia Keys- The Element of Freedom

After listening to Alicia Keys’ fourth studio album entitled The Element of Freedom,’ I seem to realize this is another taste of brilliancy from a superwoman of substance and class. The album has fourteen cuts and Alicia Keys has somehow learned to experiment and level-up her expertise in writing.

Here are my Top Five Picks:

Track 4: Try Sleeping with A Broken Heart

If you dig R&B/Soul, try listening to this single and tell me if its powerful message did not move you. If it did not move you, you are a stone. You know, once your heart is broken, this is just the type of song you want to listen over and over again until you become obsessed with it.

Move on. Move on. Move on. This is what Try Sleeping with A Broken Heart is all about and this is certainly the reason why this album becomes an element of freedom. Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Track 6: That’s How Strong My Love is

This is one of the songs in the album sprinkled with predictable spins like you just know what will happen next. This is a love song and that reason alone is enough why Alicia Keys has managed to pull it off and convert those moments of predictability into sweet success. Rating: 3 of 5 stars

Track 7: Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)

The one special thing with Un-thinkable (I’m Ready) is its cool rhythmic flow that can immediately capture your attention. The moment you start playing it on your CD player, you just say:

“Yeah, this is definitely hot, keep it rolling!”

And of course, this song is incomplete without Drake’s nice background vocals. Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Track 10: Put it in a Love Song

Alicia Keys and Beyonce in one single, what can you ask for? Perhaps, there are no missing elements around. All you need to do is enjoy and chill. Rating: 3 of 5 stars

Track 12: Distance and Time

Alicia Keys has poured out real emotions to maneuver this song in the right direction. The good news is, she does it successfully. Her voice is crystal clear, the lyrics are well-written and it’s just the right song to make you cry. That’s why; there is no need to doubt why this track rounds up my top five list. Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Alicia Keys performed the song live during last year’s World’s AIDS Day.

All in all, The Element of Freedom is a must-have. It’s one of those albums you can listen over and over again not because of hype and not just because it’s Alicia Keys. This album is the real score and without a doubt, it brings real quality music.
