At last, Robin Soderling won an ATP Tournament 250 for the fourth time and this time around, it all happened in Sweden, his birthplace.
Soderling outlasted the hopeful Juan Monaco of Argentina in straight sets (6-3, 7-6). After winning the Open without dropping a set en route to finals, the 24-year-old Swede climbed the ATP Rankings by a notch and he’s now at 11 with 3,070 points.
If you still remember, Robin Soderling became a household name when he upset the King of Clay (Rafael Nadal) in 2009 fourth round of Roland Garros. Before facing the Mighty Roger Federer in finals, Soderling worked hard to survive a five-set scare over Fernando Gonzales (6-3, 7-5, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4) during the semis. In Wimbledon, the 6’4″ Swede also fell to Federer during the fourth round (4-6, 6-7, 6-7).
No doubt, Soderling was the one man to watch in Tennis this time. What he’s up to US Open 2009? No one knows but let’s wait and see.
