Who’ll Win French Open 2010?

Last year, unexpected series of events happened.

Who Will Come on Top This Year?

Men

Rafael Nadal is a ‘huge’ favorite, that’s for sure. Rafa is unbeatable in three ATP 1000 Masters Clay Tournaments (Monte Carlo, Rome and Madrid), outlasting the likes of Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer and Roger Federer in the finals. These records are nothing coming to a Grand Slam, yes I am aware of that, and winning seven consecutive matches is not easy after a 15-0 record. It’s an exhausting task for sure but this is the right time for revenge. Rafa believes. Rafa is the King. And, Rafa can still bring out the best in him. Problem is: Can he survive the fatigue?

Women

Of course, my favorite pick will be Justine Henin. Since her professional comeback in Brisbane, only one person can outlay the Queen of Clay. That’s Kim Clijsters. Clijsters made Henin play so hard in Brisbane finals and Miami semis. Yet, Clijsters withdraws from French Open 2010 due to injury and that means, the draw is an open field for Justine to win it all. It’s inevitable if Henin losses before the finals but with whom? Serena? Ana? JJ? JJ looks in great form but for how long. No matter what, this is Henin’s big moment and French Open is her Slam!

DARK HORSES

Seeded or unseeded, a lot of names have appeared on the surface as the dark horses in Roland Garros. These predictions may be right or wrong. I saw the draw last Friday and the chances of having new set of dark horses in clay is high.

David Ferrer

Ferrer reached the finals in Rome but could not outlast the King of Clay. However, this has not stopped the hungry Spaniard. Ferrer cruised through the finals in Madrid and took a set from Roger Federer. Be in a healthy form, this man makes those Top Ten Seeds suffer in Clay Slam.

Sad to say, Novak Djokovic is drawn to meet Ferrer in the quarterfinals. If that happens, that will be a nerve-cracking match filled with high-bouncing rallies.

Ana Ivanovic

This is a risky choice. Ana is unseeded coming to her favorite slam and she can meet Alyssa Kleybanova should she win her opener. But it’s all on her. I’ll not stop believing in Ana’s magic. She still has it and she did the unexpected in Rome. That’s the one reason why I feel pretty comfortable picking her as one of the dark horses. Adje Ana!
